公共 之二:超越人类的集合
COMMONS II: MORE-THAN-HUMAN ASSEMBLIES

港大建築 2023 春三年級設計工作室
HKU SPRING 2023 YEAR 3 DESIGN STUDIO

The Covid-19 pandemic and recent nation-state crises have rendered increasingly visible the inseparability among human, nature, and technology in our society. If the values embedded in our social understandings will become the qualities manifested in our physical constructs, how would our society’s more-than-human conditions provoke new possibilities of public interactions and civic building design?

This studio uses the typology of the Municipal Services Building (MSB)
in Hong Kong as the testing site to imagine new civic building prototypes towards posthuman sustainability. Students develop projects that encompass a range of structural accommodations, envelope conditions, and temporal use scenarios, in relation to program criteria, where different constituents of society - humans and non-humans alike - can meet, gather, interact, and evoke social change.
