MOUTAIN BAMBOO RETREAT
SPRING 2016 HKU DESIGN BUILD WORKSHOP

Mountain Bamboo Retreat is an experiment on fast construction with bamboo in the forest of Zhejiang, China. The design learns from traditional craftsmen techniques and develops a system of fast fabrication and assembly. Through digital models, 1:1 tectonic prototype, and on-site iterations, the project creates a feedback loop between knowledge collected in the university fabrication lab and on the rural China construction sites, rethinking sustainability in relation to material extraction, transportation consumption, and construction efficiency.
