HKU SPRING 2025 MARCH DESIGN STUDIO
Working primarily with steel, this studio invites students to consider architectural design as open systems that can accommodate and engage different forms of intelligence embedded within various architectural production processes in and around Hong Kong.
Specifically, we look at two types of steel production in the region - local metal workshops in Hong Kong and steel factories in the Greater Bay Area. By exploring the advantages each method brings to the design process and architectural production, we design and leverage the knowledge of material culture and consider an expanded notion of sustainability that includes the cultural, social, and environmental dimensions of design.
